Salisbury City Centre Management believe that Wiltshire Council's parking strategy is fundamentally flawed.

Wiltshire Council have just published its proposed new parking strategy for consultation. Salisbury City Centre Management has produced a summary of the key proposals together with some initial observations.

Salisbury City Centre Management announces the appointment of Chris Litherland as their new "Marketing Manager". Mr Litherland takes over from Claire Burdon who has left SCCM to assume the position of Business Manager at Salisbury City Council.

Salisbury's new parking charges have received a mixed reception from a local business leader. The charges, which come into effect on 5 July, have generally been increased by 20p. The charge for parking on Sunday has been reduced from £2.00 to £1.50 but the cost for parking up to two hours goes up by a massive 25%.

Salisbury's streets are to get a major tidy up thanks to a government funding scheme and the initiative of a local business organisation. Starting today the city has a Ranger who will be working in the city centre, cleaning and re-painting the city's seats, railings, bollards and signs.

The city's business leaders have welcomed Wiltshire Council's confirmation that the £3 million Market Place project will go ahead within the next 12 months.

Ambitious plans are being considered to introduce a £1.2 million scheme aimed at helping Salisbury's businesses. The proposal being considered is to establish a Business Improvement District, known as a BID, in the city from next year.

Salisbury businesses have asked Wiltshire Council to introduce a number of parking incentives over the Christmas and New Year shopping period. The aim is to help overcome the impact of the economic downturn by boosting the number of visitors to the city and to help businesses get their tills ringing during the festive season.
